COUNTY DURHAM VOLUNTEERING AWARDS 2015

Durham Community Action are delighted to announce the launch of the County Durham Volunteering Awards 2015.

County Durham Action Volunteering Awards 2015 will showcase the work of individual volunteers and organisations from across County Durham.  The awards will recognise and celebrate the fantastic work done by volunteers and to encourage wider participation.

  • Do you know someone who deserves that recognition?
  • Do they volunteer in some aspect within County Durham?
  • Would you be willing to nominate them for an award?

There are 8 awards to be presented, at a celebration dinner on 21st October 2015.

The categories of award are:

  • Healthier - health and wellbeing of others
  • Greener - improving the environment
  • Wealthier Community Life - enriched the lives of people in the community
  • Safer - safety of others and/or improving the cohesiveness of communities
  • Supporting Children & Young People - opportunities, aspirations and potential
  • County Durham Young Volunteer of the Year (under 21’s)
  • County Durham Volunteer of the Year
  • County Durham Volunteer Group of the Year

Stop Smoking Sessions

Drop in sessions to help you stop smoking are every Wednesday from 4.30pm - 6.00pm at the Salvation Army Hall, Sherburn Terrace, Consett, DH8 6ND.

Red Kite Trail Race - Sunday 5th July 2015

The Pont Valley Network is supporting a partner event on 5th July.  It’s an 8 mile off road trail race in the Derwent Valley, home to the famous Red Kite. Marshalled and fully marked, the run is ideal for novices as well as experienced runners.

County Durham Healthy Weight Alliance - Healthy Weight Strategic Framework

The County Durham Healthy Weight Alliance will be presenting the Healthy Weight Strategic Framework, on Friday 22nd May 2015 at the Durham Leadership Centre, Spennymoor between 8.30am and 1.30pm.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about the County Durham response to rising levels of childhood and adult obesity, make connections with key partners and contribute to the work of the Healthy Weight Alliance.

An invitation is sent to all Voluntary and Third Sector partners to be an integral part of this work as the Alliance sees an increase in partnership work across the area.

For operational and catering purposes (lunch will be served at 1.00pm) please confirm if you will be attending by Wednesday 13th May 2015.
