food4u initiative being launched!

A new Churches Together initiative called 'food4u' is being launched in the local area to help people in difficult circumstances by providing food parcels in emergencies and hot lunches once per week, in the Salvation Army Hall on Wednesdays at 1pm.

food4u are seeking referrals from various agencies so the initiative can target those people most in need. To launch the new inititiative, food4u will be holding an event on 7th September 2011 at 7pm in the YMCA.

The food4u initiative would really value any help and would like to invite everyone along to the event.

Improvements to the Blue Heaps

Consett North Partnership has been awarded £11,450 from Derwent Valley Partnership's Improved Local Environment Working Group which has enabled them to secure an additional £49,839 of funding from Community Spaces towards the Blue Heaps Environmental Improvements project. The scheme will see significant access improvements made on the Blue Heaps site, which sits below Aynsley Terrace / The Promenade near the centre of Consett.

As part of the project, the steps will be renewed, making them safer and easier to use for those who use this popular short cut between the centre of town and the park and playing fields.

The Consett North Partnership has been working closely with Groundwork North East to develop this project and are pleased to announce that a contractor will be appointed in the next few weeks to start work over the summer. Community Funding - It's Up 2 U

Community groups can obtain funding via a project being developed by the Derwent Valley AAP which will soon be launching the new 'It's Up 2 U' Scheme which enables local community groups and organisations to apply for funding and provides an opportunity for local residents to vote for their preferred projects at a specially arranged event.

The It's Up 2 U Scheme is being delivered by the Derwent Valley AAP in partnership with the Durham Rural Community Council (DRCC). Expression of Interest Forms will be available shortly from the AAP and a newsletter outlining the scheme will be circulated to all homes in the area so everyone is made aware of the scheme. All community groups interested in applying for funding are asked to contact a member of the team on 03000 260 725 for an information pack.

The Scheme will launch officially at the Derwent Valley AAP Forum Event on 29th June 2011 and the closing date for completed Expression of Interest Forms will be Friday 22nd July 2011.
