Included in this section are summaries of available funding opportunities which community groups may wish to apply for. For more detailed information, community groups are advised to visit the individual website of the funder. Please take note of the timescales / deadlines for applying for funding and the funding criteria which you will need to meet in order to be eligible to apply.

Music Funding

Music Funding for Individuals Organisations & Groups (UK)

The Performing Rights Society (PRS) for Music Foundation, the UK's leading funder of new music across all genres, has announced that its funding programme for individuals, organisations and groups is open for applications.

Funding is available to any individual or not-for-profit organisation that:

  • Support the creation and performance of outstanding new music in any genre
  • Develop artists to their full potential
  • Inspire audiences UK-wide. 

Through this programme individuals as well as bands; ensembles; collectives; charities; local authority and schools; etc  can apply for grants of up to £25,000 (£5,000 for first time applicants). 

The closing date for applications is 6pm on the 11thFebruary 2013.

Healthy Hearts

Healthy Hearts Grants (UK)

Heart Research UK has announced the next funding round under  its Healthy Heart Grants Scheme will open on the 1st January 2013.  

Heart Research UK Healthy Heart Grants support innovative projects designed to promote heart health and to prevent or reduce the risks of heart disease in specific groups or communities. Grants of up to £10,000 are available to community groups, voluntary organisations and researchers who are spreading the healthy heart message. 

Projects supported in the past have included:

The Foresight Project in Grimsby which encourages visually impaired people to take regular exercise using tandem bicycles; and the Ross-shire Bravehearts project in Inverness which educates adults with learning difficulties about heart health so they can take part in physical activities. 

There are two applications rounds per year.  Applications are only accepted during January and February for the May round of grants and July and August for grants awarded in November, each year.

The closing date for this funding round is the 28th February 2013.

Sportivate Funding

Sportivate is a nationwide programme that aims to capture the enjoyment of sport, providing increased opportunities for teenagers and young adults to participate regularly in sport.

If you have an idea to attract / engage 14 - 25 year olds to take part in sport in Derwentside please get in touch with Emma Lloyd (01207 218869).

Important Information regarding Sportivate:

  • Activity to take place between April 2013 - March 2014.
  • Activity must target 14-25 year olds
  • Activity must run for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 8 weeks
  • Activity should be one hour in duration, although it is acceptable to plan for longer sessions if the activity demands (e.g.outdooractivity)
  • Activity to target young people who are not seeking out the opportunities to participate regularly in sportin their own time (semi sporty)
  • All activity must be targeted with evidence to justify the demand + evidence must be provided that consultation has taken place
  • Activities should match as well as generate demand
  • Sessions can take place at any time during the day (not curriculum)
  • Sessions should be coaching or ledand community focused
  • Activity must lead to a local named exit route or sustainable session
  • Activity must be a new initiative or demonstrate additionallyto current provision
  • Minimum application £500

Heritage Lottery Fund

Heritage Lottery Fund: Your Heritage

North East final date for application submission: 31st January 2013

The Your Heritage programme offers grants between £3,000 and £100,000 for projects that help people to learn about, look after and celebrate heritage in a fun and enjoyable way. The programme has three aims, which relate to learning, conservation and participation. To receive a grant your project must: help people to learn about their own and other peoples heritage and also do either or both of the following:

·         Conserve the UK’s diverse heritage for present and future generations to experience and enjoy

·         Help more people, and a wider range of people, to take an active part in and make decisions about heritage

Heritage Lottery Fund will be making changes to its programme next year and will be releasing new application materials for decisions from 1st April 2012 onwards.
