Are you aged 16-19 years and want to pursue a career in the film industry?

 

The BFI Academy is a 9 day program designed to give young people a chance to produce short films using industry standard practices and professional equipment.

The academy is delivered by a team of professional writers, filmmakers and sound designers with guest industry speakers and masterclasses.

You will work towards achieving an Arts Award, a qualification provided by Trinity College London and recognised by institutions nationally.

Young People in the Lead advisory panel

At the National Lottery Community Fund, we continue to have big plans for making sure that the voices of young people are included in all our work, whether it’s through the grants we make, the people we influence or the things we learn.

The National Lottery Community Fund is recruiting for new members aged 16 – 25 years old to join their Young People in the Lead (YPIL) team.

Through YPIL we aim to meet the issues young people and their communities are facing head on, and to steer significant and positive change in communities.

You can now vote for your favourite images in the Derwent Valley Partnership and Visit Consett Photograph Challenge.

Your votes will help the judges decide on the overall winner so every vote counts.

You can only vote for a picture once – but you can vote for multiple pictures in the same category if you like more than one.

Online Fire Safety Event

The Fire Safety Team is running a free live event designed to assist the Responsible Person with their Fire Safety management under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Picnic in The Park – to remember David Jackson

Sunday 5th September

Starting at 2.30pm

Free - tickets required

Bring a picnic along to Blackhill & Consett Park and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment from Consett Brass and Consett Salvation Army Band. This special event has been arranged to remember the life and work of David Jackson, local teacher, brass band leader and player, who was a passionate supporter of the park and who worked tirelessly to promote music-making amongst young people and to encourage a love of the town and its heritage. The concert will take place at the bandstand. Please bring a blanket or folding seat to sit on.

The event will be managed in a Covid-secure way and social distancing requirements will be in place, along with hand-sanitiser.  To help manage attendance numbers and assist NHS Test & Trace requirements, free tickets are being issued. These can be obtained in advance from The Lodge or from Marc Jackson, tel. 07949-299929.

If coming by car, please use the free car park next to the park, which is accessed from Laburnum Avenue via Manse Street or from Durham Road (just above The Cricketers pub) via Dixon Street. There is also free on-street parking on Aynsley Terrace, with a footpath leading into the top of the park. Please park considerately and avoid parking in front of local residents’ houses.
