Be Alert To VACCINE FRAUD
A fake NHS text is advising people that they’re eligible to apply for the COVID-19 vaccine.
It states that you have been identified as being eligible to apply for the vaccine and includes a link to follow for more information and to apply. The website that this link leads to is a fake NHS website that looks extremely convincing. It asks for personal details as well as bank details to ‘check your identity’. The NHS will never ask you to provide these details.
Scammers are using four ways of contact:
- Text messages
- Phone calls
- Websites
- In person
Like all other scams, the same advice applies
- Challenge – could it be fake?
- Do not respond to text messages
- Use official Government websites
- Challenge unannounced callers
Currently, the Covid vaccine is being offered to those most at risk from coronavirus. More information on how you will be contacted can be found at: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/coronavirus-vaccine/.
