Stroke Services in County Durham

Following a consultation on stroke services in County Durham, Healthwatch County Durham made some recommendations to the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) based on information received from people and stroke groups who took part in the survey.

  • The CCG has arranged a new contract with the Stroke Association who will continue to support patients, family members and carers.
  • As Healthwatch suggested, there needs to be clear simple literature given to stroke patients, families and carers. This will be offered by the Stroke Association following discharge.

  • Healthwatch also suggested that stroke patients should be given a care plan either on discharge or shortly after they return home. The Stroke Association will check that there is a care plan and a follow up 6 month review will be provided.
