Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator

The Alzheimer’s Society are looking to appoint a Dementia Friendly Community Coordinator*.  This will be a fixed term post for two years, 35 hrs per week across County Durham.

Salary: £21,740 per annum (actual)

Dementia devastates lives. By 2021, 1 million people will be living with the condition. Until we find a cure, the Alzheimer's Society as a leading dementia charity will aim to provide support to anyone affected by dementia, providing relevant information, training and support services. Their aim is to create a more dementia-friendly society so that people with the condition can live without fear and prejudice.

The role

Many people are being encouraged to make big and small changes in their communities with the aim of making the country more dementia-friendly.

The Dementia Friendly Community Coordinator will work closely with the Alzheimer’s Society partners across County Durham to improve the lives of people affected by dementia.  They will support people to develop local action plans which enable them to become safe and accessible communities whilst raising awareness of dementia to local providers and groups of individuals.

Skills and abilities required include:

Excellent communication skills; Highly organised; Great interpersonal skills; Ability to travel across Durham; Committed to putting people affected by dementia at the heart of everything they do; Ability to implement creative ways to make sure their views are heard by any community working towards becoming dementia-friendly; Ability to speak to people at all levels across your area so great influencing skills are essential; Ability to manage several tasks at once and keep yourself motivated to perform under pressure.
