Following a call out on behalf of Durham County Council’s Leisure Services, six volunteers will be taking part in a group to contribute a local, informed view about the usage plans linked to the new Consett Leisure Centre/Academy which are currently being finalised.

The community representatives are:

Tim Camsell - representing Blackfyne Junior Football Club.

Stephen Garden - a local resident who regularly attends the Cardiac Rehabilitation classes at the Leisure Centre.

Stephen Hodgson – a member of the fire service, who lives locally.

Yasmin Hopper - currently finishing a sport degree at Teesside University. Yasmin is a regular user of the facilities at Belle Vue - gym, dance and swimming.

Gary Hunter – a local resident who is also a Sports Centre Manager at Gosforth Academy with experience of running a dual use facility.

Gail Smith - Chairperson of Consett Steelers Netball Club. Uses Belle Vue regularly and also hosts occasional netball tournaments involving local clubs. Gail is also aiming to involve the local community and encourage businesses to become actively involved in netball, as part of the Get Back to Netball and Fitness initiative.
