Have your say on the Public Space Protection Order
DCC is reviewing the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for dog ownership, which is in place to deal with issues arising from irresponsible dog ownership.
Despite improvements, following the PSPO’s initial introduction in 2017, dog fouling and other dog related issues remain a key concern for communities across the county, therefore it is proposed to expand the PSPO to help. There are five countywide proposed additions to the PSPO and one location specific related to the ‘slope’ beach in Seaham.
The consultation closes at 5pm on 13 March 2023.

Oral Health Promotion Strategy consultation
Durham County Council is seeking the views of partners, voluntary and community representatives, health and care professionals and members of the public, on its draft oral health promotion strategy which will help shape work to improve residents’ oral health for the next five years until 2028. The strategy outlines a number of initiatives which support better oral health for children, adults, older people and vulnerable and at risk groups. Feedback will help in finalising the strategy which will then be presented to the Health and Wellbeing Board in March 2023 for agreement and adoption.
The draft strategy and a link to the survey can be found at: Draft Oral Health Promotion Strategy The consultation is open until Monday 9 January 2023.
Review of traffic sensitive streets
DCC is currently reviewing their list of traffic sensitive streets following reforms to criteria made by The Department of Transport.
Any roadworks on streets, or parts of streets, which are designated as traffic sensitive will have a bigger impact, so anyone wanting to carry out works must give a greater amount of warning and apply for permission.
DCC will be talking to businesses, contractors and other people who carry out work that may affect the use of these roads and footpaths eg need to dig them up.
They are also interested in hearing the views of local businesses, organisations and those involved in organising major events or attractions in the county.

Have your say on DCC's budget proposals
We are asking residents to have their say on proposals aimed at balancing our budget next year.
A consultation has been launched for the public to give views on our proposed approach to try and meet a £37 million gap in our budget in the next financial year, as a result of cost pressures such as increases in inflation, interest rates, energy costs and fuel prices.
County Durham residents have the option to fill in the survey online, by picking up a copy from our libraries or Customer Access Points, or by registering to attend their local AAP board meeting.
